Hello there!
We have had a couple of productive days here in Chimala. Saturday we spent some time with the Fergusons and got adjusted to the new time zone, then Sunday started our work with the church. The church here currently has 4 elders and 3 deacons, with about 150 present on Sunday morning. Avery was asked to speak for the morning service on “Carrying your Cross” while I preached in the evening on the importance of individual members in the church.
We’re looking forward to the next few days, but they will be busy!
From Perry Baker:
Saturday morning after breakfast we walked the grounds with Howell and Nathan who showed us various things such as the single piston pump operated by water that supplies the water for irrigation for the vegetable gardens, the cleared land for, beans and corn for cows. The barn with 400 chickens that supplies the mission with eggs and the chicken hatchery with approximately 400 chicks. Their goal is to be self-sufficient. In the afternoon, Nathan drove us up the mountain to the other property that is being developed for growing mostly beans and corn. The total acreage is about 350.
On Sunday we had a wonderful Lord’s Day service with the brothers, sisters, and the children. Avery Hackney preached at the AM service and Gif at the evening service. Met the elders, and deacons that were there and many of the members. Had lunch and supper with Howell, Mary, Nathan, and Kristi.
From Avery Hackney:
Since arriving in Chimala, I have been very impressed by the excitement and positive morale surrounding this wonderful work. Everyone I have met has taken great pride in the current work being done here while also mapping out future plans for this mission. It became clear just how much this work has meant to this community through the years when Christians filled each pew for Worship this Lord’s day.
I am so glad I have been able to witness what the Lord is doing here in Chimala, Tanzania.
